A Las Vegas mother accused of intentionally drowning her young daughter in a bathtub is in jail. “Well I can tell you, disturbing is an understatement,” said Lt. Ray Spencer with the Las Vegas Police Department. “I have officers out here that are extremely shaken up.
We have a 2-year-old child that was senselessly murdered.” Police responded to a Northeast Valley apartment complex just after 3 p.m. Sunday after the child’s mother called 911. “That female stated that her 2-year-old child had drowned in the bathtub.
While on the phone for several minutes with the 911 operator, the operator tried to give instructions for the female to pull the child out of the water and also to give CPR,” said Lt. Spencer. Metro Police say the mother wouldn’t pull her child out or give her CPR. When officers arrived less than five minutes later, they said the mother took minutes to answer. When police got inside, they said they found a disturbing sight.
“He went in, found the child face up, fully clothed in a bathtub full of water,” Lt Spencer said. Emergency crews gave the child CPR but she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials said that was the second call to that home that day. “There is a prior call for service [Sunday morning] where there was a domestic disturbance that was reported,” Lt Spencer said.
The toddler’s mother is now facing a murder charge. Police are reminding families that help is out there. “There’s many resources out there,” Lt Spencer said. “The point is that this is absolutely absurd that I’m here discussing a 2-year-old who was senselessly murdered.”
