Man Dies in Shootout with Oregon Sheriff’s Deputies Caught on Camera
ROSEBURG, Oregon – A video was posted by the Southern Oregon Scanner Youtube account on Saturday, showing what is believed to be the officer-involved shooting that took place in Roseburg on Saturday evening.
The video was shared to the Southern Oregon Scanner Facebook Group, saying that the incident took place south of Roseburg, near Interstate 5.
Deputies are working to identify the person involved in the stolen vehicle chase that ended in a shootout and car fire on Saturday night.
The vehicle was reported as stolen from Eugene on Thursday and “contained multiple weapons and ammunition, to include a semi-automatic rifle,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Officers say the stolen vehicle ended up stuck in a field at a nearby ranch, and deputies say the driver started shooting. Law enforcement returned fire, and the stolen car started smoking and caught fire, quickly becoming engulfed in flames.
“Law enforcement later confirmed the presence of human remains in the vehicle,” authorities said.
No law enforcement officers were hurt in the shootout. Those involved were placed on administrative leave, as is typical officer-involved shooting protocol.
This is a developing story. We will update as more information is made available.
