Las Vegas Police Shoot Caleb Hill Who was Allegedly Randomly Stabbing Women

On August 24, 2018, police received a call that A man on a bus, later identified as 38-year-old Caleb Hill, had reportedly stabbed a woman on the bus multiple times. The victim was able to get off of the bus and run for help. Hill also got off of the bus and grabbed another woman walking on the sidewalk. Hill put his arm around the woman’s neck and began to stab her also. That woman was also able to get away.

Officers arrived, saw Hill with the second victim, and began to give multiple commands to Hill to stop, but he ran from officers with the knife still in his hand. Officer Hanoff attempted to stop Hill with a Taser, but it was ineffective. Hill continued to run south on Rainbow Blvd. from Spring Mountain Rd. towards another bus stop that was occupied by two citizens waiting for a bus. Officers continued to order Hill to stop and drop the knife, and Officer Hopson arrived and fired five beanbag rounds from a less than lethal shotgun which was also ineffective. As Hill continued to run with the knife towards the bus stop, Officer Hanoff fired three rounds from his handgun, striking Hill.

Hill was transported to University Medical Center Trauma in critical but stable condition. The two victims who had been stabbed were also transported to University Medical Center Trauma where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. Hill was booked in absentia for two counts of attempted murder and one count of resisting arrest with a weapon.
