An intense gun battle between Mexican military forces and drug cartel gunmen was caught on camera. The shootout occurred in the northern state of Tamaulipas that borders south Texas. The state is the center of a war between drug cartels competing for the lucrative drug smuggling trade routes.
The military is helping civilian law enforcement because many times they are overwhelmed by the drug cartels firepower.
Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon was the first to send large numbers of troops to fight drug traffickers back in late 2006. Since then, more than 200,000 people have been killed in the nation’s drug war, and more than 30,000 have gone missing.
Warning the video is graphic and not suitable for children.
