State Controller Betty Yee, Husband and CHP Officer Driver Struck by Alleged DUI Driver Aaron George

California’s State Controller Betty Yee and her husband were injured in a suspected DUI collision Friday afternoon in the Posey Tube between Oakland and Alameda, officials with the California Highway Patrol said.

State Controller Betty Yee, her husband and a CHP officer driving the vehicle the three were in was struck at about 3:30 p.m. from behind by a Nissan sedan. CHP officials said the driver of the Nissan, Aaron George, 25, suffered major injuries and is thought to have been under the influence of marijuana when the Nissan crashed into the stopped unmarked state vehicle.

The crash pushed the state vehicle into the back of a Toyota Camry. CHP officials said Yee, her husband and the CHP officer suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and were taken to a hospital. George was also taken to a hospital and will be taken to the county jail once he is released from the hospital, CHP officials said.

The driver of the Toyota escaped injury. CHP officials said the collision is still under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call (510) 450-3821.
