Salinas police identified two men who were shot and killed in homicides on June 11 and June 15. The man who died on June 11 in the area of Center Street was identified as 45-year-old Sergio Carcamo. A Shotspotter system, which alerts officers to gunfire, alerted police to gunshots at 12:48 a.m. and they found Carcamo suffering from gunshot wounds.
Carcamo was taken to Natividad Medical Center where he later died. On June 15, a man was shot and killed in the 400 block of Carol Drive. Jose Alberto Ramirez Lopez, 21, was inside a car when he was approached by multiple suspects, according to police.
There was a fight and at least one suspect shot and killed Lopez, police said. Officers have not confirmed whether the two shootings are related. Police don’t know the motivations for the shootings, including whether either victim was involved in a gang. Police said the release of the victim’s names was delayed to confirm their identities and inform their families.
