Monterey police responded to multiple burglaries in May and arrested 17 individuals on suspicion of separate offenses. Police said an increase in property crime is due to “roving groups” and local burglars.
The “roving groups” target wealthy neighborhoods in the Bay Area, police said, and have moved from Oakland and Richmond to San Francisco and multiple other locations. Five of the people arrested were from Monterey, four were from Seaside and eight others were from Salinas, Marina, San Francisco, Pacific Grove and Stockton and Sand City.
Anyone with more information about recent burglaries in the area can contact Monterey police at (831) 646-3831.
