A 35-year-old Sebastopol man has been arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer, driving the wrong way and reckless driving after leading Sebastopol police on a short high-speed chase. Police said the suspect, Yoges Murugan, was driving a white Honda Civic when he fled from an attempted traffic stop in the area of Bodega Avenue near High Street around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
Police had received a 911 call about a possible DUI driver driving a car similar to the vehicle Murugan was driving.
According to police, Murugan initially fled northbound on Florence Avenue before turning around and speeding through downtown Sebastopol at speeds near 70 mph.
Police said Murugan then continued south on state Highway 116, reaching speeds of around 110 mph before crashing the vehicle into a fence at the intersection of Stony Point and Roblar roads in unincorporated Sonoma County. Murugan was uninjured after the crash and taken into custody, police said.
He has been booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
