Duane Joseph Jefferson Norteño Gang Member Found Guilty of Drug Possession While Armed

A jury Thursday found a high-ranking Monterey County Norteño gang member guilty of possession for sale of heroin and methamphetamine while armed with a gun, county prosecutors said.

Duane Joseph Jefferson, aka Joe Jeff, 36, and Robert Campos fled from police on Sept. 25, 2016, and when officers apprehended them, officers discovered about $100,000 worth of narcotics – more than two pounds of uncut methamphetamine and over 350 grams of uncut heroin – in their possession.

Jefferson and Campos had discarded loaded and operable guns as they were fleeing. Jefferson has a long gang history, according to prosecutors.

By 2016, he was known to be a member of the Nuestra Familia, the leadership of the infamous Norteno criminal street gang.

Jefferson is scheduled to be sentenced on March 28. Campos was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison.
