A woman was paid with fake money last week after she met with a man in order to sell him a piece of gold jewelry, Hercules police said Tuesday.
On Friday at about 12:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a theft outside the Chase Bank at 3600 San Pablo Ave. There, the victim said she arranged to meet with a man to sell him a gold necklace via the internet sale mobile app LetGo. The suspect paid the victim with a Chase envelope, which was supposed to contain $420 cash.
After the exchange, the suspect ran off. When the victim opened the envelope, she discovered it was filled with fake $20 bills, according to police.
The suspect was described as a black man with long dreads and a thin build, wearing camouflage clothing, police said.
