Corey Hughes Tattooed Face Fugitive Captured in Stockton

ID #17-571

A man known for his skull-face tattoo was arrested Thursday after escaping more than three weeks ago from the San Joaquin County inmate work crew, officials said.

Corey Hughes, 27, was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. in a house on Don Avenue in north Stockton, investigators said.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation received information about 10:30 a.m. that Hughes was in the home, and they set up a perimeter around the area.

Officers knocked on the door, but no one answered. A Stockton police K-9 was sent into the home, and Hughes was arrested.

Hughes was last seen Nov. 27 after he left his inmate work crew, which was in the area of Interstate 5 and Country Club in San Joaquin County, the sheriff’s office said.

He was convicted of a weapons-related charge, housed at the San Joaquin County Honor Farm and was set to be released Feb. 6, 2018.

Hughes’ picture caught fire on social media, as his mug shot shows his distinct skull-face tattoos.

No information on Hughes’ charges has been released.
