Shooting in Fairfield Causes Crashes and Backup

A heavily traveled road in Fairfield is closed Saturday afternoon after a shooting led to a multi-car crash, Fairfield police said.

Fairfield police received multiple calls regarding a three-car collision in the area of Waterman Boulevard and Hilborn Road and found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Several others were injured as a result of the crash. A man suffering from gunshot wounds was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition was unknown.

Police say it appears that two vehicles were traveling on Waterman Boulevard when the occupants opened fire on the occupants of a silver Honda Accord, striking the driver multiple times. The driver of the Honda lost control, causing the crash.

As of 3:43 p.m., Airbase Parkway was closed at Interstate Highway 80 and is expected to be for several hours.

No other information was immediately available from police.
