BART and Oakland police officers provided holiday escorts to patrons at the West Oakland station Thursday evening, also nabbing a suspect for alleged fare evasion – but a bicycle thief got away, transit officials said.
The holiday escort service ran from 4 to 7 p.m., a collaboration between the BART and Oakland police departments, according to transit officials.
Shortly after the escorts began, around 4:11 p.m., BART police nabbed an Oakland man on suspicion of fare evasion at the station.
A records check also revealed that Dwight Simmons, 25, allegedly had a no-bail warrant for arrest and he was booked into jail, transit officials said.
Shortly before the escorts ended, around 6:43 p.m., the victim of the theft of a light blue Scattante 12-speed bicycle reported the theft to police, transit officials said.
The bicycle had been secured with a U-lock which was cut in half and left at the scene, according to transit officials
