3 Suspects Try to Steal Victim’s Cellphone on UC Berkeley Campus

Three suspects tried to steal a person’s cellphone Thursday evening on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley, police said today. The attempted robbery occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Upper Sproul Plaza.

Police said the victim was approached by three suspects and one asked her whether he could use her cellphone. The victim said no and began to walk away when the suspect approached her aggressively.

Police said the victim said she was going to campus police and the suspects ran north through the plaza. The victim was not injured. Police said officers searched the area but did not find the suspects.

The suspects are described as black teenagers.

One was 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build.

He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the numbers 01 on the front, a white shirt, white shoes and possibly acid washed jeans.

Another suspect was 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build.

He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a shirt with USA on the front, dark shoes and possibly acid washed jeans.

The third suspect was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build.

He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, a black and white checkered shirt and light-colored shoes.
