Petaluma police arrested an auto burglary suspect who assaulted and threatened the owner of the vehicle Monday night. The auto burglary occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of Scott Street in north Petaluma, police said.
When the owner of the vehicle interrupted the burglary, the suspect fled to his vehicle nearby. The victim followed the burglary suspect to his vehicle and tried to recover the property the suspect allegedly stole, police said.
The suspect then allegedly struck the victim and fled, police said.
Police recovered a cellphone at the scene that belonged to the suspect, who was later identified as Jason Bryson, 47, of Petaluma. Police found Bryson in his vehicle in the 1700 block of Rainer Avenue.
The victim identified Bryson as the suspect and Bryson was arrested on suspicion of robbery, making criminal threats and assault, police said.
