Victor Alvarez Arrested for Allegedly Killing James Figueroa During Carjacking

Alameda County deputies arrested an Oakland man over the weekend who allegedly carjacked a truck last week in San Lorenzo, running over the victim and killing him, sheriff’s officials said today.

Victor Alvarez, 42, was booked into the Alameda Count Jail on suspicion of multiple charges, including murder and carjacking, according to jail records. Alvarez allegedly got inside a pickup truck that was left unattended with the engine running Thursday at about 5:30 a.m. in the 15000 block of Via Del Sol, sheriff’s officials said.

When the truck’s driver returned to the vehicle, he tried to stop Alvarez. Alvarez, however, threw him to the ground and ran him over with the truck before fleeing.

The victim, later identified as 46-year-old James Figueroa of San Lorenzo, was taken to a hospital where he died. A GoFundMe account has been set up for Figueroa and can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/james-quotkimoquot-figueroa.

Deputies did not release details about Alvarez’s arrest.
