Craig Cuthbert and Fredachi Stone Arrested in Connection with Stabbing, Robbery Cases on BART

Arrests have been made by police in separate alleged felony cases that occurred recently on BART property, BART officials said today. Police arrested 24-year-old Craig Cuthbert on suspicion of stabbing two people Sunday morning at the Lafayette BART station.

Cuthbert, a transient from Salt Lake City, Utah, allegedly turned himself in to San Francisco police Wednesday afternoon. BART police said that they were able to identify Cuthbert as a suspect after someone saw a video image of him from a camera on a train.

Police are investigating whether the two adults Cuthbert allegedly stabbed had stolen items from his bag while he was sleeping on a train.

This morning at about 3 a.m. Fremont police detained a man for allegedly jaywalking and learned he had a warrant out for his arrest for a robbery on a BART train Sept. 11.

Fredachi Stone, 37, is alleged to have shown a handgun and then taken a woman’s purse on a train traveling between Hayward and South Hayward stations. Police found Stone also with the help of video from a camera on a train, according to BART officials.

  • Fredachi Stone robbed a woman at gunpoint on the BART 9/11/2017. Stone and a associate robbed Craig Cuthbert 10/8/2017 while he was sleeping. Cuthbert followed the two men off the train onto Lafayette platform and there was an altercation. Stone probably pulled the gun out and Cuthbert in self defense gave the two robbers minor wounds with a knife he carried on his person. Craig Cuthbert then left the station. The police not realizing that one of the “victims” was Fredachi Stone who had a warrant out for felony armed robbery from the 9/11/2017 incident had the two men transported to a hospital where they received treatment for minor wounds. At that point the two robbers disappeared. After looking at the video tapes and talking to witnesses the police put an APB for Craig Cuthbert because he was a person of interest and they set the charges to felony level so they could hold him in jail and get him to testify against Fredachi Stone. They need his testimony to get a 2nd felony count against Fredachi Stone. California is a three strike state. Fredachi Stone was arrested and charged with felony armed robbery. Craig Cuthbert turned himself in to the police without incident. Craig Cuthbert is homeless so I am sure the police are afraid he is going to leave the area at the first opportunity. Craig Cuthbert cannot make the bond so even though he is the real victim he will rot in jail until his case comes to trial.
