A woman was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run following a collision Wednesday in Richmond that critically injured a 3-year-old boy, police said today. Alyssa Valdivia, 19, of San Pablo was driving a red Smart car around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 2700 block of Macdonald Avenue when she allegedly hit the boy with the car she was driving, police spokesman Lt. Felix Tan said.

Officers learned that the boy was with his mother and was about to get into their car parked along the curb when he escaped his mother’s grasp and darted into the street, where the car struck him, according to Tan. The boy was in critical but stable condition last week and is “hanging on,” Tan said today. El Cerrito police pulled over Valdivia at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday as she was driving the Smart car west on an Interstate Highway 80 on-ramp from Potrero Avenue.
