Salinas Police Arrest Suspect After Roof to Roof Chase

A suspect who fled Salinas police, jumping from roof to roof, agreed to come down after negotiating with an officer and was jailed Friday, police said. The case began when officers got an alert that a stolen car was parked in the 700 block of Bellarmine Drive, according to police.

As officers arrived, they saw someone driving the stolen car. The officers also saw suspect Guadalupe Ramirez running from the area of the car, according to police. They tracked the suspect to the roof of a two-story apartment building in the 600 block of Palma Drive, police said. Ramirez jumped from one roof to another, then stopped and asked to speak to a supervisor, according to police.

The on-duty watch commander negotiated with the suspect for 20 minutes and Ramirez eventually agreed to come down. Ramirez was arrested without incident, police said. Ramirez, 36, was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest and violation of probation.

An investigation is continuing in an effort to positively identify him as the driver of the stolen vehicle, according to police.
