A convicted armed robber and admitted child molester remains on the run from police.
The suspect, Lavon Beverly, has two warrants for his arrest for crimes against both children and adults.
Truly disgusting court documents claim Indianapolis man sexually abused a 3-year-old girl on more than 100 occasions.
Before and after that crime, police say Beverly showed a pattern of violent behavior that makes him a danger to society.
In broad daylight at a Clark station on 38th Street, an argument erupted into gunfire in July of this year. In a strange twist, the ambulance transporting one of the shooting victims to the hospital ended up in a head on crash.
Police say surveillance images show Beverly was involved in the shooting and fled in a black Chevy Impala, despite having multiple warrants for his arrest at the time.
“He doesn’t want to come in and he’s out there creating havoc,” said Sgt. Steve DuBois with Crime Stoppers.
Long before the non-fatal shooting at the Clark station, police say Beverly helped rob a man at a home on Adams Street and molested a young child.
Court records filed in 2013 claim Beverly forced the young girl, just 3-years-old at the time, to perform numerous sexual acts on him.
Beverly pleaded guilty to child molestation in 2015, but repeatedly failed to show up to sentencing and still has a warrant for his arrest.
“There’s been a consistent lack of respect for any law enforcement,” said DuBois.
Police say that disrespect for the law also led Beverly and his brother to be charged with robbery after prosecutors say the pair forced their way into a home and held up a man at gunpoint. Beverly has a warrant for his arrest in that case as well.
“He preyed on child to begin with and then the robbery warrant and now he’s involved in some sort of gunplay, so he needs to be taken of street to save his life or someone else’s,” said DuBois.
Indianapolis police did arrest Trevell Patton with the shooting at the Clark station this year, and while no one died in that incident, Sgt. DuBois says Lavon Beverly also needs to be caught for all his crimes before anyone else falls victim to his violent criminal ways.
“Because of the lifestyle he had to lead, people like this end of being suspects or victims in homicides or shootings because their warrant has forced them to go below normal society,” said DeBois.
In addition to the two charges for which he has warrants, Beverly’s criminal past includes charges battery and theft.
