Police in Salinas are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday at a laundromat. Officers with the Salinas Police Department responded at 9:08 p.m. to the 600 block of East Alisal Street on a report of a robbery. Police said a man with a gray beard entered the laundromat with a gun in each hand and attempted to rob three people. The suspect first approached a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman and demanded their money, police said. The man handed over his wallet with a small amount of cash and his cellphone.
The woman, who was holding her 1-year-old child, told the suspect she didn’t have any money. The suspect then approached a 35-year-old man and attempted to rob him, police said. When the victim showed the suspect his empty wallet, the suspect pistol-whipped the victim across the face. The suspect took the man’s empty wallet and his cellphone and fled the establishment. Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 40s with a gray beard, 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black ski mask and blue jeans. He was armed with two guns.
