A man was arrested in Santa Rosa Thursday in connection with a domestic violence incident. Jason Laqua, 21, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, robbery and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. On Thursday around 1:05 p.m., a citizen flagged down a Santa Rosa Police Department officer in front of the Roxy movie theater at 85 Santa Rosa Ave. and reported a man had just assaulted a woman across the street. The victim told the officer her boyfriend, identified as Laqua, had slapped her and had forcefully taken her cellphone.

The officer saw Laqua across the street and tried to detain him, but Laqua continued to walk away, police said. The officer then tried to grab Laqua, but the suspect shoved the officer, and the two ended up in a fight on the ground with Laqua violently resisting and attempting to kick the officer multiple times, police said. The officer radioed for emergency assistance, and a citizen came to assist the officer and was able to help detain Laqua until backup police units arrived and Laqua was taken into custody, police said.
