A Richmond man was arrested Monday in connection with a stalking case out of Santa Rosa. Carlos Alfonso Almendares, 34, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and stalking. On Jan. 26, the Santa Rosa Police Department began an investigation into threatening messages a woman was receiving through social media. Police said they received audio and video evidence the suspect, identified as Almendares, was trying to find the victim’s residence, and that he would violently assault the victim once he located her. The suspect sent the victim photos of a weapon, had businesses call the victim in an attempt to persuade her he was near her home, and he recorded himself making crude and obscene statements to her, police said. Police said the victim believed the man was a threat to her and her family. The case was assigned to the Police Department’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Investigations Team, and a detective requested a warrant to search the suspect’s Richmond home for items related to the investigation. The Richmond Police Department served the warrants on Monday, and Almendares was arrested without incident.
