Two suspects were arrested Friday and a third remains at large after sheriff’s deputies in Monterey County found guns in a crashed car after the driver fled a traffic stop, sheriff’s officials said. Around 10:25 p.m. deputies in the vicinity of Merritt and Salinas streets attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but allegedly the driver fled at high speed, according to sheriff’s officials. The driver lost control and crashed, at which point three suspects fled the vehicle, deputies said. Two of them were arrested nearby, one with the assistance of a K9 unit, sheriff’s officials said. While searching the vehicle deputies allegedly found two handguns, sheriff’s officials said. Both captured suspects are on probation for gun crimes, according to sheriff’s officials. Martin Arango-Cruz, a 19-year-old resident of Marina, was booked into the Monterey County Jail, sheriff’s officials said. A 17-year-old Castroville youth was booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall, according to sheriff’s officials. The third suspect remains at large, sheriff’s officials said.
