Sheriff’s officials are asking the public to be cautious of a scam involving phone calls from a person who is falsely identifying himself as an employee from Monterey County Sheriff’s Department. The caller uses various names, but most recently identified himself as Sgt. Henry Farley, according to sheriff’s officials. During the phone calls, the caller tells the victim that the victim has outstanding warrants for their arrest and the victim can avoid arrest if the victim pays a fine in cash, sheriff’s officials said. The department does not employ anyone named Sgt. Farley and does not conduct business in this manner, sheriff’s officials said.
