A man suspected of fatally shooting a woman near San Francisco’s Powell Street BART station on Tuesday night has been arrested, police said today. San Francisco resident Antonio Crivello, 62, was arrested on suspicion of murdering 51-year-old Barbara Pomposo, police said. Pomposo had no confirmed residence at the time of her death, according to the San Francisco medical examiner’s office. Shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, San Francisco police responded to the 100 block of Mason Street on a report of a possible shooting victim.
Police arrived at the scene and located Pomposo in an apartment building suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper torso. Officers immediately performed CPR but Pomposo succumbed to her injuries at the scene, police said. Evidence found at the crime scene led officers to identify a possible person of interest in the case. The suspect’s description was distributed to officers. Later that night, at about 9:45 p.m., officers spotted a person matching the suspect description in the area of Leavenworth and Ellis streets.
Officers detained this individual, identified as Crivello, and brought him to the police station for questioning. Crivello was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm, and for two outstanding traffic warrants, according to police. Police said that although an arrest has been made, anyone with further information on this case is encouraged to call.
