Two suspects pleaded not guilty today to special circumstances murder for the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man in Oakland’s Fruitvale district in May. Vicente Prado-Rodriguez, 20, and Cinthia Gabriel-Martinez, 19, are charged for the shooting of Basilio Pablo Ramirez, a native of Guatemala, who died after he was shot in front of his home in the 1500 block of 39th Avenue, just north of International Boulevard, at about 9:21 p.m. on May 3. In addition to murder, Prado-Rodriguez and Gabriel-Martinez are charged with the special circumstance of committing a murder during a robbery, according to police. Prado-Rodriguez and Gabriel-Martinez are also charged with armed robbery for an incident in the 5000 block of International Boulevard shortly before Ramirez was killed. They are scheduled to return to Alameda County Superior Court on Oct. 13 for a preliminary hearing, which will determine if there’s enough evidence against them to have them stand trial.
