Ricardo Villanueva Cordova Wanted for Alleged Cold Blooded Murder in Albuquerque

ID #15-370

An Albuquerque man accused of fatally stabbing a neighbor 28 times over a dispute about a barking dog has been indicted.

Prosecutors say 33-year-old Ricardo Villanueva-Cordova is facing charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.

A Bernalillo County grand jury issued a warrant for his arrest Monday.

Customers of an Albuquerque gasoline station called 911 on June 18, 2013, to report seeing a man being repeatedly stabbed.

The suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck and 27-year-old Michael S. Sanchez later died at a hospital.

Witnesses relayed the vehicle’s license plate to police, who tracked down Villanueva-Cordova at his home.

Police say Sanchez had a long-standing dispute over the Villanueva-Cordova family’s dog, which was found badly injured earlier on June 18.

  • The dog belonged to Ricardo’s sister. Michael had already called Animal Control on two previous occasions, because the dog was always roaming the neighborhood, chasing him, and bitting him in his own yard. Animal Control had already been to Ricardo’s residence twice and issued a warning the first time and a citation the second time. A third time would mean a criminal complaint would be filed against them. Michael was threatening to call Animal Control for the third time that morning. Ricardo did not want the heat there.

  • I will repost in the hopes that someone, somewhere knows this person and will contact the proper authorities! My condolences to the family of the young man that was viciously attacked. Seems like a dispute that could have, and should have, been handled differently, much more peacefully! This person needs to be caught before he hurts someone else! Just one question, cause I’m a bit confused as to the ending of the story. Who’s dog was injured? Was it Ricardo’s family dog, and he thought that Michael had hurt their dog? Or was it Michael’s dog, and Ricardo thought Michael was abusing his own dog? I’m just not understanding that part. I am in NO way saying that either would be justification for what this monter did! Just wanted to make sure no one thinks that. I was just curious as to why he felt the need to stalk this young man and chase him down, while he was defenseless and caught off guard. Such a heinous crime. Prayers for the family, that they may find peace and justice!

  • Michael Sanchez family is devastated by his death and the lack of justice cuts deep. Please help us receive some closure. For Michael to be brutally butchered because his neighbors believed Michael had slightly injured his dog is unacceptable. Thank you for keeping this in the media. God bless us all.

  • Thank you for featuring this COLD BLOODED MURDERER and fugitive at large, from ALL the Michael S Sanchez family.
