East Palo Alto Resident Aaron Dennis Womack Arrested on Suspicion of Battery, Indecent Exposure at Open Space Reserve

A 26-year-old man was arrested over the weekend in connection with an allegedly violent battery and indecent exposure incident that happened earlier this year, police said today. Aaron Dennis Womack, an East Palo Alto resident, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and indecent exposure, police said. The alleged incident happened at the Palo Alto Baylands Open Space Preserve in the 2500 block of Embarcadero Road shortly before 3 p.m. on Jan. 21, police said. A man in his 20s was walking with his girlfriend, a woman in her teens, on a levee near the Baylands’ nature interpretive center and the pair sat on a bench next to Womack, according to police. The couple was engaged in a conversation with Womack, who then allegedly patted down the man as if he was looking for a weapon, police said.

The couple immediately walked away and was about 40 feet away from the bench when Womack allegedly yelled at them, according to police. The girlfriend turned around and saw Womack allegedly expose his penis to her, police said. The male victim took out his cellphone to call 911, but Womack allegedly approached him and punched his face and upper body, according to police. The man fought back and briefly lost consciousness, but was able to come back from it, police said. The couple was able to escape from Womack and went to the nature interpretive center, where they called police. Emergency crews transported the male victim to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries on his face and bruises on a hand, according to police.

The woman was not involved in the altercation, police said. Detectives later identified Womack as a suspect and presented their case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, according to police. On July 8, an arrest warrant was obtained for Womack, who was found on Sunday night in the city’s parking garage “S” at 445 Bryant St., police said. Womack was arrested without incident and booked into county jail, where he is being held on $15,000 bail, according to jail records.
