A Carmel man has pleaded guilty to felony assault charges stemming from an argument with his landlord in January that turned violent, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. Marc Cross, 64, hit his landlord in the head three times during a heated argument on Jan. 24.

The landlord was already recovering from an unrelated head injury, and had a shunt in her head at the time of the assault, according to District Attorney Dean Flippo. The landlord suffered cuts to the head as a result of falling to the ground, and the shunt was also damaged. She was transported to a hospital for medical treatment, Flippo said. Cross is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on Sept. 23.

He faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison, according to Flippo.
