Mexican authorities report that more than 40 drug cartel gunmen and at least one police officer have been killed in a major gun battle yesterday in Tanhuato, Michoacán. (story continues below video)
Authorities say that a convoy of soldiers and federal police officers were ambushed by a large group of gunmen from the Jalisco Nueva Generación drug cartel using assault rifles, hand grenades, rocket propelled grenades and a 50 caliber anti-aircraft machine gun.
In March, 20 police officers were killed when another convoy was ambushed by drug cartel gunmen and in another attack a military helicopter was shot down killing 7 soldiers.
