Morgan Hill police arrested two men Monday after a witness called to report seeing one of the men urinating in public. Police received the call at 5:48 p.m. and responded to the report of a man urinating in the center median near Monterey and Cochrane roads, according to police.
While the witness was on the phone and talking to police dispatch, the witness said the man then got into a work van and drove away, police said. The witness followed the vehicle to San Pedro Avenue, police said. Once police were able to catch up with the van, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver didn’t stop.
According to police, the driver then veered his vehicle across the center lane divider and hit a patrol vehicle. Once the van came to a complete stop on Church Street, police said they ordered the driver out of the vehicle by gunpoint. Police identified the driver as Yrineo Pantoja, 37, of San Jose, and his passenger as Walfre Diaz, 39, of Gilroy. Police arrested Pantoja on suspicion of driving under the influence and evading police, while Diaz was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
