Police this morning arrested a 54-year-old Hercules resident who allegedly stole more than $300,000 from his 84-year-old mother, police said. Angel Robert Garcia was arrested on suspicion of financial elder abuse, forgery, theft, unauthorized access to computers and check fraud, police said. He is being held in lieu of $215,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Police responded to a report in March from an 84-year-old woman who had noticed fraudulent activity on her bank account, police said. Investigators determined that the woman’s son, identified by police as Garcia, had used her personal information to get access to her bank account and steal more than $300,000, according to police.
Garcia created multiple fraudulent accounts, which police said were used at several local businesses and casinos throughout the state.
Around 8:45 this morning, Hercules police served a search warrant at Garcia’s home in Hercules and reportedly recovered devices and documentation implicating him in the scheme, police said.
