Carnell Taylor Jr. and Jason Johnson alleged home invasion robbers shot and killed by homeowner in Pittsburg

Two suspected robbers who were shot and killed by a Pittsburg homeowner during a residential burglary Friday evening were identified by police today as San Francisco residents. Carnell Taylor Jr., 26, and Jason Johnson, 28, were shot and killed while apparently trying to rob the occupants of a home in the 1000 block of Jewett Avenue just after 9 p.m. Friday.

Police responded to reports of the shooting and found the two men dead at the scene. The homeowner told police that he and two other people were inside the home when Taylor and Johnson broke in. The homeowner was assaulted and during a fight he shot and killed both men, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and released.

Police said it appears the homeowner acted in self-defense and he has not been arrested or identified. There was another home invasion robbery at the same man’s home last Monday. Police said four suspects were arrested in that robbery and they are still investigating if there is any connection between the two robbery attempts.
