San Mateo Sheriff’s deputies arrested two 18-year-old suspects on suspicion of residential burglary and conspiracy, sheriff’s officials said today. Deputies arrested Hayward resident Jonathan Cardona and Visalia resident Juan Cardova today, according to the sheriff’s office. San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Coastside Patrol Bureau deputies responded to the 300 block of Avenue Del Oro in El Granada at about 10:30 a.m. on a report of possible home burglary, sheriff’s officials said.

A subject was attempting to open a sliding glass door in the locked backyard of a home, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies arrived, they found that the subjects had fled, sheriff’s officials said. A neighbor, however, took a photo of the vehicle the subjects allegedly used in the burglary, according to the sheriff’s office. At about 11:20, deputies were on patrol in the 700 block of Alcase Lorraine in Half Moon Bay when they saw a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the El Granada burglary, sheriff’s officials said.

Officials said deputies saw two subjects walking toward the vehicle and detained them. Deputies found the subjects to be in possession of a large amount of jewelry, sheriff’s officials said. Homeowners in the 400 block of Granelli Avenue confirmed with deputies that jewelry had been taken, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies booked both subjects into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
