A man was arrested in Milpitas on Tuesday in connection with a domestic battery incident involving the mother of his child. Officers responded at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday to the 200 block of Carnegie Drive after receiving a 911 call from the victim, police said.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told officers the father of her child, identified as Geronimo Gomez Gutierrez, 28, of Milpitas, had struck her and was trying to take their daughter from her home, police said. The victim also told police Gutierrez had a knife and was last seen outside of the residence.
Officers located Gutierrez, who was holding a knife, nearby in the 1300 block of Edsel Drive, police said. Police said Gutierrez pulled out a second knife, held both knives to his throat and threatened to hurt himself. Several officers responded to the scene and a crisis negotiator spoke with Gutierrez for about an hour before negotiations deteriorated and officers implemented a plan to disarm and arrest him, police said.
Police had to evacuate nearby homes during the incident. Gutierrez was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of domestic battery.
