A man found shot in a U-Haul truck in Antioch on Saturday night had warrants for his arrest and tried to flee police rather than get help for his gunshot wound, police said. Robert Morton, 41, was found with a gunshot wound in the parked U-Haul truck in the 3700 block of Sunset Lane at 9:08 p.m., police said.

Officers arriving were aware that Morton had several warrants for his arrest. When they tried to get him out of the truck, Morton drove away in the U-Haul, police said. Shortly after that, police heard of a suspicious U-Haul truck at a Chevron gas station on Lone Tree Way in Brentwood. Brentwood and Antioch police officers found the U-Haul driving away from the gas station and pulled it over, according to Antioch police.

Morton was in the back of the truck, police said. He was taken to a hospital for his gunshot wound and then arrested for the warrants and evading police. Police have not determined who shot Morton but suspect he was the intended target.
