Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 63-year-old man Saturday near Carmel on suspicion of attempted homicide, Monterey County sheriff’s officials said. Deputies responded at 6:11 p.m. Saturday to a report of an assault at a home at 26256 Camino Real and found the victim suffering from blunt force injuries and lying in her front yard, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition and deputies located the suspect, Marc Cross, in a room that he was renting in the victim’s home, sheriff’s officials said. After an investigation, deputies took Cross into custody and booked him into the Monterey County Jail, sheriff’s officials said.
