Benicia police have arrested a Pittsburg man on suspicion of shooting into an inhabited Benicia residence earlier this month, a police lieutenant said. Christopher Alexander, 25, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after Pittsburg police saw him driving in the 800 block of Birchwood Drive in Pittsburg, Benicia police Lt. Scott Przekurat said.

Alexander was in possession of suspected methamphetamine and a loaded and concealed handgun when he was arrested, and he was booked in the Contra Costa County Jail on those charges and on suspicion of the Benicia shooting, Przekurat. He is suspected of shooting into an apartment in the 1500 block of East 4th Street on Jan. 12. A 36-year-old woman and three children, ages 13, 11 and 1, who were inside the apartment at the time were not injured.

The suspect fired more shots into an unoccupied vehicle in the complex’s parking lot then got into a white vehicle that drove east on East O Street, Benicia police said. Benicia Detective Mark Menesini, who investigated the shooting, identified Alexander as the suspect, and got a $180,000 warrant for Alexander’s arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, Przekurat said.
