Scotts Valley police arrested a Santa Cruz man on suspicion of stalking and burglary early Sunday morning, police said.
Residents of a Tabor Drive home told police they woke up shortly before 1:55 a.m. Sunday to the sound of footsteps on their roof.
One of the residents got out of bed to investigate and found his front door ajar and a man hiding in a closet in a bedroom, police said.
Police said the owner of the house reportedly struck the intruder in the chest with a baseball bat.
The owner identified the man and provided a vehicle description and police said officers were able to locate the suspect at his home.
Officers arrested Josue Jashua Cano Velez, 21, on suspicion of stalking and burglary. He was booked into county jail, police said.
