A 22-year-old man was arrested for his alleged role in the death of a female found in a car in a rural area southeast of Salinas early this morning, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy conducted a vehicle check on Old Stage Road near Alisal Road and found Salinas residents Carole Sangco and Byron Sumagang inside, sheriff’s officials said.

Both were transported to a hospital where Sangco was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators determined Sumagang was responsible for her death and arrested him on suspicion of murder, sheriff’s officials said.

The weapons used in Sangco’s death were hands and a head, according to the sheriff’s office.

No further details were immediately available.
