Police arrested a San Leandro man suspected of robbing two businesses earlier this week, police said today.
On Monday, officers responded to a report of a robbery at FoodMax, located at 699 Lewelling Blvd., at around 7 a.m.
The same day, officers responded to a second report of a robbery at Ernie’s Seafood Restaurant, located at 13775 E. 14th St., at 3:50 p.m., police said.
During the second robbery, police said an Ernie’s Seafood employee chased the robber while another employee called police. Officers joined the chase and arrested Azer Baucom, 22, of San Lorenzo in the 1100 block of 136th Avenue.
While investigating the second robbery, police said they suspected Baucom committed the robbery at FoodMax earlier in the day. The two stores are located roughly two miles from one another.
Officers drove the FoodMax employee from the first robbery to the scene of the second, where police said he positively identified Baucom as the perpetrator.
On Wednesday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Baucom with robbery, attempted robbery, committing a crime while out on bail for an unrelated offense, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance.
Police said Baucom is currently being held in Santa Rita Jail.
