Authorities have identified a man fatally shot last week in North Richmond as 38-year-old Derrick Cooper of Richmond.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of Fourth Street, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jimmy Lee said.

Cooper was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he was pronounced dead early the next morning.

Police are also investigating a separate incident Sunday in which sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Grove Avenue in North Richmond around 9:50 p.m. and found a 16-year-old gunshot victim injured.

That victim was also taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives are investigating both cases and have not determined whether the shootings are linked.
