Residents in an Oakland neighborhood awoke with a jolt early this morning after someone sent a stolen car crashing into a house, a police lieutenant said.

An unidentified suspect around 1:15 a.m. apparently placed bricks on the gas pedal of a stolen Chevrolet SUV and put the car in gear, sending it hurtling into a nearby home in the 4000 block of Coolidge Avenue, Oakland police Lt. Henderson Jordan said.

No injuries were reported.

The crash severed a gas line in the area, prompting emergency responders to evacuate several homes, Jordan said.

PG&E crews were called to the scene to turn off the gas line and the evacuees were able to return home.

Police said no suspect has been found and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
