American Youth Enlisting in Mexican Militias Fighting to Drive Out Drug Cartels

American young people are reportedly enlisting in the Mexican civilian militias that are fighting the ruthless Knights Templar Drug Cartel in the Mexican state of Michoacán. At least one American war veteran is reportedly among the volunteers joining the citizens trying to drive out cartel and restore peace to their communities.

The militias call themselves “auto-defensas,” or “self-defense” militias. The violence has spun out of control causing fears of a civil war. Some are calling it a 3rd Mexican Revolution.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has sent in thousands of soldiers and federal police to disarm the militias. The militias that are refusing to disarm or to give up territory they have gained until the cartel reign of terror is ended. Some battles have been reported between the army and the militias.
