Watsonville police have arrested three juveniles in connection with a shooting that authorities believe was gang motivated, a police sergeant said.
Officers responded to the area of Green Valley Road and Freedom Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m., Sgt. Saul Gonzalez said. Three 15-year-old boys, two on bicycles and one on a Razor scooter, approached a 17-year-old Watsonville boy, he said.
A confrontation ensued then one of the 15-year-old boys pulled out a gun and shot at the 17-year-old, Gonzalez said. The gunshot barely missed the victim and struck his clothing, Gonzalez said.
The suspects fled the scene and a witness followed them about three to four blocks to Freedom Boulevard, Gonzalez said. Police who arrived on scene arrested the three boys but could not recover the weapon, he said.
The victim was not injured and has been uncooperative with authorities, according to Gonzalez. The three, all Watsonville residents, were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and will be booked into juvenile hall, he said.
