The Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force seized a loaded revolver from suspected active gang members in Watsonville Saturday afternoon, according to the task force. The task force stopped a car for a traffic violation on Winding Court at about 12:25 p.m. Saturday, according to Santa Cruz County sheriff’s officials.
The vehicle was occupied by Daniel Smith and Eudoro Moya. Moya was found to be on active parole; Smith, a convicted felon – and both were suspected to be active gang members, sheriff’s officials said. Task force officers found a loaded revolver in the car, which was suspected to be stolen, as well as some marijuana.
Moya was arrested on suspicion of parole violation. Smith was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm as a gang participant and for carrying a loaded firearm, according to the sheriff’s office. The gun seizure is the 24th by the task force in 2013.
