Daly City police are searching for witnesses to a triple-fatal drunken driving crash from earlier this month. On March 9 around 8:10 p.m. Josefa Osorio Acevedo, 50, and her sons Amado Osorio Acevedo, 23, and Josue Osorio, 15, were killed after they were struck on Eastmoor Avenue just west of Zita Manor in Daly City. A fourth passenger in the car, a woman, was severely injured in the collision. Investigators believe people in a light-colored van in the area at the time of the collision could have witnessed it and potentially have information to help the case, police said.
The victims were broadsided by an alleged drunken driver, 28-year-old Sunnyvale resident Denis Pereria Demacedo. After his arrest that night, Demacedo pleaded not guilty to DUI vehicular manslaughter and other charges when he appeared in court last week, according to the San Mateo County district attorney’s office. Prosecutors allege Demacedo had been drinking at a pizzeria for several hours before getting into his car and hitting the car occupied by the Osorios.
A blood test taken two hours after the crash measured his blood-alcohol content at .18 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit, according to the district attorney’s office. Demacedo, a native of Brazil, is scheduled to return to court on April 9, according to the district attorney’s office. Demacedo is also on probation from a 2010 drunk driving conviction, according to prosecutors. Witnesses to the deadly crash, and specifically those in the van, are asked to call Daly City police Det. Sean Begley at (650) 991-8173.
