Elpidio Morales, Jr. Murdered on New Years Eve Identified by Gilroy Police

A man who was shot and killed in downtown Gilroy on New Year’s Eve has been identified by police as 52-year-old Elpidio Morales, Jr. Police received multiple 911 calls at 9:33 p.m. reporting that a man had been shot on Old Gilroy Road at Alexander Street, less than a block from Forest Street Park.

Officers arrived and found Morales lying in the street. He had been shot multiple times and died while being transported to a hospital, police said. A preliminary investigation determined that a dark-colored sedan was seen accelerating away from the scene shortly after the shooting, police said. It was not known whether the vehicle or its occupants were involved in the shooting.
