On Sunday September 25, 2011 at approximately 4:56 P.M. two uniformed Oakland Police Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the 1800 block of 99th avenue for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle had two occupants, as officers approached the car the passenger ran. Both officers ran after the subject to the 9900 block of Cherry Street. The officers were able to catch the subject and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the officers discovered the subject was in possession of a firearm and threatening the officers.
One of the officers discharged his firearm, which struck the subject. Medical attention was provided at the scene. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers recover a loaded firearm and suspected narcotics. The identity of the subject is not being released at this time, pending proper notification. Police are looking for the driver who fled the scene and the vehicle.
The Oakland Police Department Major Crimes Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and began their investigation into this case.
